Hobsonville Point Community Facilities

Introduction:

In Hobsonville Point, there are two community facilities that are owned by Auckland Council. From 1 July 2019, these facilities are being managed by Hobsonville Community Trust (HCT). These are the “Headquarters Building – Te Mahere” and “Sunderland Lounge – Te Rere”. Both are located within a 1 minute walk of each other and there is also the Headquarters Park across the road from the Headquarters Building. This is a green open space, suitable for a bbq or kicking a ball around however it does have roads on either side.

The 1930’s art deco RNZAF Headquarters building has been refurbished and re-purposed as a community facility. It is comprised of six rooms, one of which is a shared lounge that is available Monday-Friday from 10am-2pm for anyone to drop in, relax or to connect with one of our venue team. There is also a kitchen.

The Sunderland Lounge is currently being refurbished. It is comprised of a large community hall, a community space with a large kitchen, and a meeting room.

Booking of Facilities & Rates of Hire:

The reopening of the Headquarters Building has now been confirmed for 2 September 2019. The renovation of the Sunderland Lounge is hoped to be completed in September but its opening is subject to final work and vesting processes. Timings remain subject to change and updates will be provided on this page.

Bookings for the Headquarters Building are available through an online booking system linked above. If you wish to become a regular hirer of an ongoing hire slot, please email venues@hobsonville.org.nz.

Update 22 Aug: Bookings for the Sunderland Lounge are not currently available due to further uncertainty again around reopening.

All bookings need to include time for setup, arrival meet & greet, packdown and cleaning. Minimum booking time is 1 hour. Hire can then increase in 15 minute increments.

NB: Online bookings can only be made at least 72 hours in advance. Otherwise bookings need to be made via email (venues@hobsonville.org.nz) and will only be responded to during our staffed hours of Monday-Friday 9.15am-2.45pm. Weekend access is not possible if bookings have not been confirmed by Friday 2.45pm.

The community facilities will be available to all and the hire rates will be similar to those of other similar Auckland comunity facilities. These have now been set and are available on the facilities respective pages linked below. There is a discount shown for not-for-profit community groups of 40%. Special community events/initiatives that contribute directly to targeted community outcomes may be eligible for additional discounting. This will be on a case by case basis only.

Alcohol Policy

Alcohol is not allowed for private functions. An exception for limited alcohol however may be made for weddings in the Sunderland Lounge, and for business functions and community events of a suitable nature across either venue. This is subject to the hirer meeting the conditions of hire in relation to alcohol. Details can be found in our Venue Hire Conditions Document.
